About me and why you should hire me

Background

Located in Ontario, Canada, I hold a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree from Queens’ University in Kingston Ontario. I have experience working at a newspaper both as an editor and as a proof reader. I have also worked as an English editor at a law firm, editing all kinds of legal documents prepared by non-native speakers, which often required extensive editing. My freelance experience includes Spanish-to-English translation (legal, financial, marketing, oil industry) and copy editing/localization editing.

Having lived in Venezuela for 12 years, I speak Spanish and am very familiar with Latin American culture. I built my network among embassies, marketing agencies, law and accounting firms and other clients to whom I have offered support related to written English. Thus, while I am certainly able to offer (and have indeed provided) my copyediting services to clients from other backgrounds, I am especially adept at detecting those common errors and instances of awkwardness that are the result of “Spanglish” and intuiting what the Spanish speaker meant to say in English. My corrections are always tracked for clients’ approval.
